Pickering Steam Railway

Ann and Me had a Dayout at Pickering Steam Railway, we go once a year some times two all deepens on the weather .

We walk  the Pickering railway walk running 18 miles via Levisham Newton Dale Goathland to Grosmont and finishing at Whitby, we just walk to Levisham.

Its a splendid walk with the added bonus of the steam trains puff-puffing with the occupants waving from the carriages brings to mind the film The Railway Children and seems to help us on our journey.

The walk passes The little hidden gem of Pickering and well worth a visit,  the Studiotozer ceramics at Rock Cottage, a ceramics artwork studio and gallery, situated 1 mile north of Pickering centre on the heritage walk running parallel with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway every time we seem to walk past someone seem to be drinking a nice glass of wine in the garden, so not sure how much art work actually gets created.
The walk takes you past field and lovely meadows and the pathway are well maintained in fact it looked like some holes had been filled in on the paths.

We cross the railway then left and pass the signal box next into the quarry keep to the path and through the gate follow the path to a shooting range take the right path to Yates Farm we tend to just follow the n reaching the road we turn left and then take the next right onto Ruddings Road.
Pickering Steam RailwayWe follow the road and cross over the Bridleway, going straight ahead and down a steep hill (Farwath Road) to a ford. We go over the ford to have a look at Farwath and the railway line and then back over the ford to resume our walk. Just before the ford we turn right going up a steep path until we reach a gate.

We go through the gate and uphill to the remains of High Blansby, here we turn left and follow the Bridleway back to New Bridge, passing Blansby Park Farm, West Farm and Park Gate. On reaching New Bridge we turn left. We walk down the road and take the path on the left to the castle. We have a look round the castle then back on to the road and follow the road, passing the trout farms on the right, back into Pickering.

One sad point was the Pickering Model shop formerly Puffers has closed down, i think the owner died it was up for sale for sometime i but nobody came forward to take the business on.
